After 19 years of coaching throughout his career, Ralls softball coach Bobby Feaster will retire after the current school year.

“I’m looking at this as a new adventure,” Feaster said. “I got three grand kids that I just adore and spend more time with. I’m going to be sad to leave the kids here.”

Prior to holding the head position at Ralls softball, Feater held stints at Dimmitt, Merkel and was at the helm of the boys basketball team for the Jackrabbits.

“I started out at Coronado Junior High in Plainview,” Feaster said. “I went to Merkel and was the baseball coach, for two years, I started the baseball program in Dimmitt for seven years and I came to Ralls as the head girls basketball coach. When they decided to start softball, they asked me if I rather have softball and I said sure.

As dominant Ralls has become in the South Plains area, the development of the players was the key to making Ralls an area power.

“The expectations here are high,” said Feaster. “We developed a tradition and they do not want to let the group before them down.”

With Ralls sitting atop 2-2A district standings with a 7-0 record in league play, Feaster does not have any other goals as his final year concludes. For Feaster, the job was more than wins and losses as the important goal has already been accomplished, the good memories that were made with each team that was under his leadership.

“I think a lot of coaches get in the profession to compete and win ball games,” said Feaster. I felt like my job was to try to educate kids and show them the righ way and make them productive citizens when they left. I hope they get a college degree and go on and live successful lives. I felt good as the job that I did as far as that goes. I want these kids to leave here with good memories and being able to do something with their lives that they can be proud of.”
